According to him, gay marriage will lead to the end of Western civilization. Marek Benda is said to be a nominee for Minister of Justice REFRESHER.cz<

The coalition SPOLU and PirSTAN will most likely form the new government. And journalists based on the information of their sources from the coalitions compiled a preliminary list of persons who could occupy individual ministries. ODS member Marek Benda, former vice-chairman of the parliamentary club of the Civic Democratic Party, could take the post of the Ministry of Justice. The speculated list was published by Sabina Slonková Neovlivní's server.

There is also speculation that Benda could take the post of chairman of the Chamber of Deputies. He himself expressed that he would like a member of the winning coalition SPOLU to take up this post, mainly because of a possible third attempt to form a government.

Marek Benda has been working in the Chamber of Deputies for the eleventh term. He was in the Parliament for the first time in 1990. He is thus the longest-serving member of parliament in the modern history of the Czech Republic.

In 2008, he co-submitted the so-called muzzle law to the Parliament, which prohibits the publication of information from police wiretapping without the consent of the person being wiretapped. According to some, this law restricts the freedom of the press. Among Bend's other significant steps is the Law on the Collection of Laws and International Treaties, which was ranked second in the Law of the Year poll in 2019. It should have been awarded for greater predictability and clarity of laws.

According to him, homosexuals will destroy the traditional family

He says gay marriage will lead to the end of Western civilization. Marek Benda is allegedly a nominee for Minister of Justice | REFRESHER.cz

In addition, Benda is also known for a number of very controversial statements about sexual minorities.

In the Reflex debate, he said that gays will contribute to the collapse of Western civilization. They are said to be practicing the so-called salami method, where they first demanded a registered partnership, now marriage, and in the next steps, according to Benda, they will destroy the traditional family.

Marriage for all can also lead to Muslim polygamy, according to him. In the same way, the adoption of children by homosexual couples is unimaginable for Benda. "A child has the right to two parents. Not for dad and dad and mom and mom,” Benda said in the debate.

The fact that homosexual couples should not have the right to adopt children was also said by Benda during a debate with former senator Jiří Dienstbier. When asked by an opponent whether he would rather leave children in an orphanage, he replied that "no normal children stay in orphanages".

Benda said in a 2018 debate with Czeslaw Walke, an activist from the We Are Fér initiative, that he would also be in favor of abolishing registered partnerships. According to him, at the moment the state interferes too much in the relationship between two people. In the past, Benda considered the Registered Partnership Act unnecessary, which he also recalled in a debate with Jan Kozubík on DVTV in 2016.

"We have already experienced the fact that children need happiness and love and it doesn't matter if they are with five or fifty people. Under the Bolsheviks, we experienced that all nurseries and similar institutions do not work. You, like then, come with the same attack on a family-based society, you just hide it behind other words," he said in the debate with Kozubík.

The deputy does not even take into account the fact that the majority of Czechs support marriage for all. “I only trust those polls that I falsified myself, I say, referring to Winston Churchill. I don't believe these numbers, absolutely," he said in an interview with Lidové noviny.

Young divorces are inadmissible according to him

Another controversy of Mark Benda is his view on divorces. He doesn't want the exception to become the rule. "I don't want the exception to become the norm," he said during a debate in Reflex. "I wanted to introduce a young couple to decide if they are getting married just for the test, or if they are getting married inseparably," he said.

The purpose of marriage, according to him, is to raise children. In the debate, he thus opposed Walk, who claimed that the institute was mainly about love without distinction. "Keeping love is hard to sustain even in the marriage of normal couples," Benda refuted the argument at the time.

The editors of REFRESHER magazine confronted MP Bendu with his older statements. But he did not respond to our questions.

However, the first person to form the government will probably be the chairman of the ANO movement, Andrej Babiš, according to him, President Miloš Zeman, who is currently in the Central Military Hospital, confirmed this to him on Sunday. Given that he has no one to form a majority with in the House of Representatives, the opposition coalition will almost certainly form the government in the end.
