In the spring of 2018 I was approached by volunteers of the initiative we were fair to not sign a petition for the enactment of marriage for the same -sex couples.I was surprised and asked them if there were any difference between marriage and registered partnership.Like most people who are not concerned, I had no idea that "registration" meant nothing at all. This moment was my initial impulse, but I must admit that I was hesitant. Many friends and colleagues carefully asked me whether to make a movie about homosexuals in 2018 is not a bit… Passé.
All of these fears after the first days disappeared because we eventually watched the extremely tense debate for three years.
The fact that marriage can be perceived as an institution that connects several levels and which can be a conservative value as well as the means of emancipation.I knew we would be filming in lobbying in parliamentary clubs, volunteer training, regular initiatives...
All of this I was interested not only in terms of filming, but above all from personal - civic.I have never been in the “behind the scenes” of the human rights initiative.I often wondered whether I would have so much patience and strength if I pushed some of my interests like this.
Yes, at one point I really felt that the law would pass. When filming the collection of signatures or at public events, I perceived that the public is mostly inclined to this amendment and that our elected representatives will register this mood.
The bill, however, "stuck" at first reading, it will now be a thousand days from submission. The fact that the vote did not take place, did not turn out for or against it seems unacceptable to me.And, of course, changed the intended form of the whole film.
Yes, instead of mapping of admission, rejection of this significant social change, the film has seen an absurd, nowhere's non -leading debates in the House.Which, of course, reflects the current Czech policy very precisely. At the same time, the fact that the shooting method was strictly observational - I did not interfere with the situations - the scenes are authentic. In the editing room we then carefully shifted the material and created a surprising association in the assembly. These elements, along with original music and graphics, add a tragicomic tone.
The supporters of the law want to have the same pairs of the same rights. They want to take the same name, they want to have the right to widow and widower's pension, to the common adoption of the child, the differences are perhaps over a hundred.
Opponents most often talk about the disruption of the so -called traditional family.Unfortunately, the opposition was also heard voices indicating homosexuality as illness, comparing gays and lesbians to pedophiles and zoophiles, which has nothing to do with the marriage theme.
I have certainly been ignoring this issue since I have been developing this issue.Today I can say calmly that personally and my heterosexual relationship would not really threaten me.If there is a fact that is actually destroying families, it is primarily a high divorce rate. And if we are the adoption of the law we will rank among the thirty countries where the marriage has been equal, I think it will only be good.
Because our film is far from ready, I try to devote my time to its finalization. But of course I am curious how we do, so I check it every other day.The campaign will run by the end of March. And since we collected over 87 percent of the amount during the first week, I believe that we will be able to achieve a half -million goal.
It is primarily a financing of image and audio postproduction.Furthermore, all graphics, the production of a projection copy and a marketing campaign that will help us get a movie among people.
If we choose above this target amount, we will use the finances for authorial music and for more extensive distribution to the east of us.For example, to Slovakia, Poland or Russia, to countries where discussions on the same -sex marriage almost did not even start.
The last term we considered was June, but on the basis of the development of the pandemic situation I am beginning to doubt it.Maybe we'll be happy for September or October.
Of course, we appreciate this extremely and we are very happy that one of our actresses - Tereza Hardká - is also nominated at the same time.
She was not afraid to take the weight of our experiment and, like Anežka Pithart and Sabina Dlouhá, did excellent performance. And as far as nomination is concerned, we would like this new wave of interest in the film to generate new initiatives, such as the effort to change the school curriculum so that security on the Internet is part of the lesson at the first level.
