Pop icon Britney Spears lost her legal rights thirteen years ago. Since then, she has not been able to make decisions about her finances, to marry her beloved, but not even to conceive the child she longs for, because she cannot ask the doctor herself to remove the intrauterine body. At the same time, he is still allowed to perform concerts and work.
After years of lack of freedom, the singer has said enough and has been fighting hard for several months for the abolition of guardianship, or at least its transfer from the hands of the allegedly despotic father Jamie to the hands of someone more accommodating.
In the end, the fight really paid off: in August, after massive public criticism, Jamie gave up his involvement in the guardianship. Now, in addition, another victory has come - the singer's father even asked the court for its complete cancellation and the return of Britney's autonomy. After more than a decade, she would finally be able to decide for herself.
"If Ms. Spears wants to end her guardianship and believes she can take care of herself, Mr. Spears believes she should be given that chance," Jamie Spears' attorney said.
