Mahulena Bočanová: You won't believe who she attributed the authorship of the fashion Olympic collection. Czech athletes resemble Japanese peasants<

Fashion lovers certainly still have vivid memories of the blue boots worn by Czech athletes at the Olympic Games in London, and their tastefulness was still hotly debated long after the end of the sports festival. In any case, at that time the collection with the motifs of Kupka's Two-Color Fugue was enthusiastically received by the world beyond the borders of the Czech Republic and considered it an amusing exaggeration, related to the British changeable weather.

Link to traditions

This year's fashion collection for Czech athletes, starting in a few weeks at the postponed summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, is causing a wave of resistance even enthusiasm again. It was created for the Alpine Pro brand by Zuzana Osako, a designer who also lived for some time in Japan. And it was this experience of hers that eventually catapulted her to a commission for a prestigious display of her work. For the presentation of the models, she chose two nominated athletes, promising young swimmers Barbora Seemanová and Jan Micka. The collection was presented in the Japanese garden of the Prague Botanical Garden in Troy.

Fashion designer and former model Osako was based on the collection that Czech athletes presented in 1964 at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. "According to several sources, blue printing came to the Czech Republic precisely from Japan and is still a popular dyeing technique there," the designer explained the choice of patterns for the upper parts of the models in the press release of the Czech Olympic Committee. In the designs, she also kept the blue-white color combination, while in the details she added red to the tricolor. The models can also be worn without the upper parts, so the athletes will remain dressed only in white with red accessories dominated by the shoes.

It didn't go without humor

The collection was received positively by the athletes who will go to Japan for Olympic medals - not to mention, probably only a few would dare to criticize the partner of the Czech Olympic Committee. He even accommodated them and allowed not to include a jacket in the collection. "We put a lot on the athletes who, before covid, were most afraid of the heat," said Jiří Kejval, chairman of the committee, at the presentation of the collection. The jacket was replaced by skirts for women, and vests for men, which are the most common upper part of Czech traditional costumes. The whole collection is also linked to these. If, of course, there are not too many combinations of traditional elements, there are quite substantive discussions, especially on social networks.

Mahulena Bočanová: You won't believe who she attributed authorship to fashion Olympic collections. Czech athletes resemble Japanese peasants

„...blue prints, rusks, rolled-up carrots, ack skirts with puffs and butter. Oh, and as a bag, they have our beggar... that probably killed me the most. A straw beggar, a traditional tramp's money box..." appeared in the comments on Facebook. Actress Mahulena Bočanová also expressed her sense of humor, adding a message about possible designers to a photo of the athletes in the Olympic collection: "Okamura feat Jožka Šmukař - thank you!"

Americans as astronauts

As they say - a thousand people, a thousand tastes, there are certainly many who like the collection for Czech Olympians and would like to buy the models for themselves. In the past, the hit of these models was the double-sided jacket, the functionality of which was used by the snowboard crosser Eva Samková when she received her Olympic gold medal. And believe me, the Czech team is not the only one that arouses controversy on social networks with its clothes.

The collection for athletes from the United States, which is more like a new model line for astronauts, catches criticism not only for its appearance, but also for its functionality. The top model is quite a bulky jacket, so the reminder that it will be 40 degrees in Japan during the Olympic Games is quite appropriate. Of course, the Czech satirist TMBK did not miss the comparison of these two controversial fashion ventures, and his collage once again amuses not only sports fans.
