The Czech premiere took place in September 2014 and wrote criticism about the leading events of the musical season. The Kalich Theater has staged the musical as a modern dance show based on the precise and energy -charged performance of the young acting ensemble.“We have been preparing a fever Saturday night for the Czech theater scene for several years.Rights owners provide a license after a particularly detailed study of local production. We were the first in Central and Eastern Europe to the right to fever.I knew we could only apply for them when we were 100 % sure that this extremely demanding title in our country can be found enough first -class musical actors. On the stage of the Kalich Theater, such an acting generation grew up, so I did not see the reason not to accept such a bold challenge, ”recalls producer Michal Kocourek.

When Saturday night fever in December 2016 with the Kalich Theater said to the imaginary relay to take over the Brno City Theater with its production, it was still full of auditorium.“We wouldn't have pulled a fever from the repertoire at the time, it was still a performance in full force. But we still cannot complain, we originally had a license for 100 reprises and then we were extended with regard to the constant interest of the audience, so we eventually played more than double the number of performances and said goodbye than we originally had.Indeed, the response from the audience that they lack the fever, which they have not stopped over the five years, they may believe that we have decided to return, ”explains Michal Kocourek.

Interviews

S Janem Křížem o návratu do role Tonyho Manery (a jeho kostýmů)

What does your return to the role of Tony Manera look like?

I had to lose weight first. After the time the theaters were closed, we watched with my colleagues that he had taken four pounds, the six… on my whole body apparatus I felt I hadn't used it for months. Therefore, too, I barely started training again, for example my elbow went into the stretched ligaments, in inflammation. So in the physical preparation for the fever I could continue until the elbow cured. But again, I have the advantage that I am a little smarter, tactical than before the original premiere and that I already know the show, I know how to break down the energy during it: where it is inhabited, where I do not breathe, where I can slow down and where I have to collect all forces. The body just remembers this, I have verified that I had choreography stored in the motion memory after five years since the dernier. So play a renewed premiere for me, I think, will not be as physically demanding as playing the original.Although fever is still a huge macačka and for me a big challenge.

Nothing more physically demanding you did not play before or after the fever, probably no one else on the Czech musical scene has ever met such a harness.Did you even play the show?

What I had the opportunity to see different versions of fever, I think that it has not been staged anywhere else in the world.Ján Ďurovčík brought her to the extreme. He consciously built it so that the actor in the lead role gets to the very limit of his physical possibilities.Prepared her as a great craft challenge. To play a afternoon and evening performance in one day was almost impossible. But I loved it and I was a little proud of myself that I was able to meet Ján's demands. And that people liked the show.

You trained on the original production seven years ago by suggested all the songs of your roles while jumping over the skipping rope.Have you tried such a piece now?

Tried and survived it.I was pleasantly surprised that I sang all my numbers again while jumping. However, of course, I feel that the body is slightly older, I will not look different. Now that I put on the costumes again, I saw that I took over my back and chest, so some pieces of clothing must be allowed. It's not just a passport, one is generally bigger… Anyway, I look forward to the show very much.I hope we will honor him and we will weigh where we ended five years ago.

S Michalem Kocourkem, producentem a majitelem Divadla Kalich

How long have you planned to launch Saturday nights at the Kalich Theater?

About six years, when I accidentally reminded myself of a film I loved in my youth, especially music from it.Again I realized that this musical completely applies "what song, the hit".We live in the era of Retra fashion, contemporary world trends often draw: in design, clothing industry and, last but not least, music.Music from that time persisted, all kinds of pink waves have swept through it, and people like to come back to it.For all this is a fever Saturday night still up to date.

From the beginning it was clear that you will invite Ján Ďurovčík to cooperate?

Thanks to our previous cooperation, I knew that Jano is an ideal brand for the fever. It is an exceptional choreographer, rightly considered the real capacity of the European modern dance theater. And also his directorial feeling is exactly what the fever of Saturday night of the twenty -first century needs. So I didn't even think about another name.

Due to the Saturday Night Fever, you have significantly expanded the Kalich Theater Light Park to include unique technologies. How would you tell them?

This is a whole new approach to lighting the musical performance. It is not fully usable universally for all titles, but it is the fever Saturday nights are extremely suited. We have bought new technologies that combine laser, LED, effect and other lights, which can achieve a wealth of combinations. No one had seen anything like this in the Czech Republic until then.

Was it difficult to get a license to put a fever in Prague?

Certainly.Rights owners really watch the fever carefully, each step is under their supervision. In addition, for several years after the London premiere did not allow the local introduction across the board.Of course, their agents first examine the references for production that none of the license.Fortunately, we are accompanied by the reputation of quality theater even abroad. On the one hand, thanks to musical titles from our production, which are very successful on the world scene in Asia. And we also owe Ronald with a good name in the international field.Taft, the American producer and the owner of the license to Pomade, who left the premiere of our pomade years ago.At that time he told us he saw one of the best pomades in the world and the best cast he had met with.Indeed, it was not just a social courtesy because he shared a lot of his colleagues with the same superlatives to our address. So when we applied for a license for Saturday night fever, we were already preceded by such a good reputation.

S Jánem Ďurovčíkem, režisérem a choreografem

What went through your head when the producer Michal Kocourek first said the idea of introducing Saturday nights in our country?

That fever people very often compare with pomade, which can be understood, so my first thoughts have led the direction to distinguish these titles as much as possible.Pomade premiered at the Kalich Theater two years before the fever, so I followed it, and of course we did not want to offer the viewer a mere copy.It has recorded to the cards that while Pomade is a "pink" light comedy, Saturday night fever has certain social aspects, not just trouble -free fun.So from the first moment I wondered what all the fever different.

To what extent your fever Saturday nights are going to retro style?

Only in fine citations. This is another significant difference between fever and pomade. While there are a number of references to the social circumstances of the time of her story, fashion icon, stars of those times, fever tells a story that doesn't take place directly in the background of such indications.Could be experienced by young people in any decade. So the costumes and dances of our fever Saturday nights are a swinging era of the seventies, but there was no need to stick firmly to the style of seventies. Moreover, the present is very inspired by the retreation.I bet some of our actors came out of a costume theater, people would not even look at them on the sidewalk."Retro" is not the most important on the fever.

Not even in music? It's about hits bee gees of 70.flight…

The authors of the theater version of the fever Saturday night from London's West End at the end of the 1990s took a big step for us.Those chronically known songs moved from popular music to musical as a genre. But I smuggled the show and excerpts of original Bee Gees, take it as a kind of director forum.

What demands did you choose the actors for the fever?

With Michal Kocourek, some thirteen years ago we set a bar and of course we do not want to creep it with any other title, on the contrary we try to go higher. In the Kalich Theater, as criticism writes - it does not dance, or overall musical, in the style of "we will close both eyes".So the role representatives dance at the level of professional dancers. We did not decrease even the millimeter in this respect.I think we continue on the way we went out years ago.
