The electronic registration obligation applies before entering Austria for:

On-site conditions

A minimum standard of measures is set at the federal level (all of Austria), the individual federal states can make them stricter:

The above restrictions do not apply to children up to the age of 12, or children up to the day they turn 12 are not required to present any proof of infection-free status.

For unvaccinated children from 12-15 years old (born no earlier than 1/9/2006) it is possible to prove infection-free in order to use services (accommodation in accommodation facilities, use of cable cars, visits to restaurants, access to slopes, etc.) with a vaccination document or recovery from the covid-19 disease in the past 180 days, or by a PCR test valid 72 hours from collection and, exceptionally, also by an antigen test valid 48 hours from collection, so that at the time of proving non-infectivity, the test must be valid, or for longer stays, the tests must be renewed before they expire.

Minors born before September 1, 2006 (under the age of 18) must prove their immunity for the above purposes by having a full vaccination or proof of recovery from the Covid-19 disease in the past 180 days, unless they are covered by one of the listed exceptions (vaccination period of validity: 270 days from the application of the 2nd dose, according to the notification of the Austrian Ministry of Health, from 1 February 2022, this period should be shortened to 210 days for persons under the age of 18 when proving that they are free from infection in order to receive services. The relevant legal the prescription has not yet been published, so the details are unknown.)

The exception also applies to pregnant women and persons who present a medical certificate (in German or English) that they cannot be vaccinated because it would pose a danger to their life or health. In this case, in addition to the above-mentioned confirmation of the impossibility of being vaccinated, it is sufficient to submit a negative PCR test that was taken no more than 72 hours ago; pregnant unvaccinated women cannot use the above exemptions where the stricter 2G+ proof of infection-free regime applies (i.e. vaccination/recovery + PCR test).

Unvaccinated persons, if they are not covered by any of the above exceptions, may leave their home until 1/31/2022 only for urgent reasons, such as

  1. avoiding immediate danger to life, health, property,
  2. helping those in need, exercising the right to family life and fulfilling family obligations,
  3. covering basic needs (purchasing basic necessities, visiting parents, partner not living in the same household, other important contact persons, trip to the doctor, for vaccinations/tests, visit to the cemetery, mass, getting animals),
  4. trip to work/school,
  5. < li>being in nature alone or with family or loved ones,
  6. participating in court/official hearings,
  7. participating in elections,
  8. participating in selected meetings , e.g. funerals or demonstrations.

The above-mentioned minimum standard of measures has been applied since 20 December by all the federal states of Austria.

Given the possibility of taking stricter measures in individual places in Austria, we strongly recommend that you familiarize yourself with the extent of the lockdown and the hygienic-epidemiological conditions in the place you intend to travel to before departure. For this purpose, we recommend contacting the accommodation provider and visiting the website of the tourist area in which you intend to stay.

Procedure in case of covid infection

Persons who become ill with the covid-19 virus in Austria or who come into contact with an infected person must immediately report this fact to a doctor in the given place or to the local governor's office, or municipal office. In the event of a stay in an accommodation facility, the accommodation provider shall also notify the suspected illness. The relevant doctor will decide on the next procedure. According to specific conditions, the doctor determines the form of quarantine, which can take place both in the accommodation facility and in another facility. The costs of staying in a special facility during the officially ordered quarantine are covered by the Austrian state.

With the consent of the doctor and under the conditions set by him, the tourist can be transferred to his home country. It is recommended to take out insurance for this purpose.

Transit

Persons transiting through Austria to/from another country or to/from the airport or persons picking up their relatives at the airport can travel without restrictions as before, i.e. they do not submit proof of infection-free status or register in Austria.

Border crossings are open for normal traffic. Random checks can take place both directly at the border and in the Austrian interior. On the territory of Austria, it is necessary to observe the measures of partial lockdown. The adopted lockdown measures do not mean a ban on entry into the territory of Austria.
