Abroad, they are called baby showers or push parties. The first expression probably stems from the fact that the woman at the party is covered with presents and baby equipment. The second is that at the party a few weeks before the birth, of course, the moment of birth and other aspects of motherhood are thoroughly discussed.

The prenatal party is held six to four weeks before the birth, because in the last month the mother has been tired and may prefer privacy and rest. The party is usually organized by a sister or friend, in short, the closest woman, and invites other women and girls, as well as brothers, friends and other relatives.

They are not as common in the Czech environment as abroad, probably due to local superstitions that a pregnant woman should not have baby equipment in the house. Fortunately, superstitions are a thing of the past, and women, following the example of famous foreign celebrities, try to celebrate their children before they are born. It has several advantages: you have more time for a party before the birth than after the birth, you can enjoy a conversation with your loved ones in peace, and they can also offer their support, whether material or mental.

I'd rather not be surprised

Nevertheless, if you want to organize a prenatal party for your loved one, you better not do it as a surprise. These are not suitable for pregnant women in the last trimester, moreover, they may not be in the mood for a similar celebration, or they may have very specific requirements for guests or how the party will take place. Therefore, it is more sensible to discuss everything with her at least a little and then save disappointment on both sides. he didn't like the party (for example, a willing grandmother or dad who goes for a walk with a pram, etc.)

According to tradition, the baby shower should be aimed at the satisfaction of the expectant mother, so the theme of the party, music and refreshments are adapted to her taste. In order to feel comfortable, she often chooses a home environment, but sometimes also cafes and garden restaurants, or a picnic (but it is necessary to think mainly about the comfort of the pregnant woman and what is pleasant for her).

Therefore, when giving advice to living with a child, it is better to save yourself scary stories from maternity hospitals, as well as the latest story about how you had to go to the emergency room with your child yesterday. If your children are already moving on their own, it is better to arrange babysitting for the party (or to take a grandmother who will take care of the child with you), otherwise you will not enjoy it in peace. The same goes for the pregnant woman and her previous offspring - also invite them not to feel pushed away, but according to age, provide them with babysitting or appropriate entertainment so that the whole party does not revolve around them.

It is not appropriate if the pregnant woman prepares a list of requested gifts and provides it to the guests to arrange each other. She avoids having to return three bottle warmers or babysitters to the store before giving birth, or has to find a place for excess clothes and toys.

Small gifts and staff are also often prepared for guests - they can be a joint photo taken at the photo wall (or a link where it can be downloaded), a lollipop or other sweets, etc.

It is also good to know what food or drink the mother-to-be has the most taste for and to serve it at the party, you will definitely make her happy. Be sure not to forget salty snacks such as canapes or sandwiches, but also fresh fruits and vegetables. The parties before the birth of the child usually do without alcohol, the pregnant woman herself cannot consume it and it is not suitable for someone else to get drunk at her party.
