What is important is how you actually want to catch carp. You can hunt them using a variety of methods and in a variety of conditions. These are two factors that strongly influence the fisherman's demands and requirements for a carp rod.

One model of the carp rod is used when fishing for carp near the shore, another for fishing at a distance. So make it clear right from the start how and where you want to catch carp.

Carp surf rods: Lean into whatever you can!

On some waters, especially large dams, you have to deal with an "infinitely" vast space in which to search for fish when fishing for carp . Situations often arise where you have to get your installation to a suitable distance. But how? How are you supposed to get our bait far from the shore when it can't even be exported in that area? No need to panic.

Carp surf rods are intended for long casts. They are rods made of a robust blank that can withstand the enormous pressure of the angler when casting. Surf rods tend to have, at least compared to their finer relatives, a relatively high weight and a long length. But it is exactly these properties that guarantee you that you can rely on the surf rod for carp even at the moment when you have a heavy set up.

But be careful! Surf rods alone do not guarantee long casts. Simply put: in order to be able to get your mount to a respectable distance, then a lot of training is required.

When choosing the right surf rod, however, you can monitor several small details that have a significant effect on the length of the cast. These include, for example, the placement of the eyelets. For long casts, it is better if the surf rod has fewer eyes, which are also large and spacious. Thanks to this, the connecting material is not particularly inhibited by friction during casting, so the assembly will fly further.

One of the great advantages of a surf rod is that the first eye - that is, the one closest to the reel - is really spacious. It can thus accommodate a large amount of tying material, which is released from the spacious spool of the carp reel when casting. And in this case, again, there is not so much friction and the assembly can fly a little further.

Quality eyes are very important for a rod

For high-quality surf fishing rods, not only their "space" is decisive, but also their shape. Some modern surf rods, for example, have the inside of the eyes in the shape of a triangle, which again helps to make the longest possible casts. But fishermen can count a whole range of these details with surf rods.

Of course, other important details include the length of the handle. With a surf rod, it must be long so that the angler can create enough effective leverage to cast the rig as far as possible. The long arm span and the ability to lean into the rod is a great sign that we will be breaking lead casting records with this surf rod.

There is an abundance of surf rods on the current market. You can thus choose telescopic or split surf rods in a wide range of prices. Surf rods for carp also offer a variety of features: so you can choose from different weights and lengths, exactly according to your taste. It just depends on what you want from a surf fishing rod for carp.

Split rods for carp: finesse above all else

The disadvantage of surf rods is certainly their stiffness, which somewhat dampens the beauty of fights with smaller fish. So if you want to enjoy the fight with every fish, then you need to reach for a finer split carp rod. These types are currently among the most popular models for hunting these sought-after fish. No wonder. They are soft, thin and light, so they promise an absolutely luxurious pleasure when tackling wild carp.

However, this does not mean that you cannot cast a split rod for carp. On the contrary, some models of split carp rods are directly intended for long casts. True, in this respect they will probably never quite match the "casting" abilities of surf rods, but split rods collect plus points elsewhere.

Split rods for carp are produced in a huge variation in terms of length and weight. If you need split casting rods, then it is advisable to look for 3.6 to 3.9 meter (12 to 13 ft) models that offer enough length for long casts. As already mentioned above: split carp rods cannot be measured quite evenly with surf rods, but even longer split rods can be cast very well to a relatively decent distance.

When fishing for carp, we can use split rods for casting or balancing

Choose the weight of split rods according to the setup you intend to fish with. In general, dividers with a heavier weight are used for heavier assemblies. The range of optimal weights varies from 2.75 to 4 pounds, but of course there are also split carp rods with higher weights on the market.

However, it must be taken into account that the "feeling" of the weights sometimes varies a lot. This means that some 2.75-pound rods "feel" stiffer than a 3.25-pound rod. Therefore, always "bury" the rod properly in your hands before buying it.

Split rods for balancing: An even more delicate matter

Balancing is a somewhat specific discipline in carp fishing. If you are fishing with a rod in a boat, then shorter split carp rods, such as 3.6 meters (12 ft) in length, will do. In theory, even shorter rods could be used, but in practice you would not be able to hook fish effectively at a distance. This is a big problem with short rods, so don't underestimate their length too much.

Rods with a length of 3.6 meters are very easy to handle on the boat, which is why they are absolutely ideal for balancing. And since you don't need a stiff rod for long casts, a lighter weight between 2.25 and 3.25 pounds will do.

The wonderful thing about split rods, whether they are "casting" or "retrieving", is that they are really very sensitive rods. Thanks to this, you will enjoy any exciting fight with any wild fish. Enjoy it.
