Children should climb trees and work with a knife, the campaign of forest nurseries convinces<

The so-called "beneficial risk" is experienced by children in the forest kindergarten throughout the year. Photo | Markus Spiske / Unsplash Under the unobtrusive supervision of adults, children can work with sharp tools, climb trees or move around a fire. Gradual and proportionate dosage of risk is beneficial. This is the main message of the campaign Outdoor is safe, which was launched by the Association of Forest Kindergartens (ALMS). According to the president of ALMŠ, Tereza Valkounová, children gain skills and self-confidence through these experiences. We know, ads are annoying. Children should climb trees and work with a knife, convinces the campaign of forest nurseries

"We want to show that when we are outside, we can feel safe there. Even if we have sharp tools in our hands like knives, when children decide to climb trees, or when we need to warm ourselves by the fire," she said Valkounová in the Prague forest nursery Hvězdy v lese. It has facilities on Bílá hora, near the Hvězda nature reserve, but the children spend most of the day in nature.

"The current pandemic situation has driven many families and children outside. And it seems to us that we can pass on this experience that we know from forest nurseries - how to be prepared and how to enjoy, let's say, potentially risky situations," she said to campaign. "So during this month we will be passing on this know-how of ours on social networks and in the form of various articles and interviews, both in pictures - what it looks like when children are outside and working with that risk - and what we as adults have prepared. I mean, for example, the rules we have agreed with the children," she added.

According to her, the so-called "beneficial risk" is experienced by children in the forest nursery all year round. "We deliberately use such a provocative name because we believe that getting to know the risk is something they need for their lives," he says.

According to information from the ALMŠ, there are 140 forest nurseries in the Czech Republic. For example, in Germany, according to the organization's data, there are two and a half thousand of them.
