Lipavian? Nothing ends. Zeman is a big player, says Pospíšil. And guess the development | ParlamentniListy.cz – politics from all sides<

Poll

Will there be war between Russia and Ukraine?

It will be 20% It won't be 77% I don't know / I don't care 3% voted: 17253 people Soukup is very surprised that the president appointed the government on Friday. He waited until the last moment to see what would happen when Zeman initially announced that he refused to appoint Jan Lipavský (Pirates) as foreign minister. Pospíšil felt the same way: "We were all watching to see what would happen, right... I am surprised that Mr. President did not 'violate' the Constitution, to fulfill his constitutional obligations," he said.

He doesn't want to speculate that there is a barter behind it: "I can't judge what's behind it. Let's be a bit idealistic: the country has many problems, perhaps for that reason the president did not postpone the appointment of the government."

The moderator then introduced his thesis about the relationship of the president to Babiš's cabinet: "Actually, the 'Castle political party' was formed when the president and his colleagues were basically Babiš's coalition partner," he pointed out. And Pospíšil acknowledged his words.

Soukup hopes that Fiala will not agree to a similar "coalition cooperation". "I know him personally well. And he's not a fan of behind-the-scenes power plays. On the contrary, it is a calm force that at first glance may seem like it might not work out, but in the end it did," he said.

He recalled how he called the president's talks with ministerial candidates unnecessary and lengthy. "But it was a certain gesture from Fiala that he did it, even though the president was not entitled to it. Perhaps the president understood that the one who will extend the appointment of the government in this situation will have a long-term black Peter. Maybe it decided that Fiala succeeded," believes the MEP.

"I guess he retreated with the idea that he would play a different chess game," continued Soukup, reflecting on Zeman's unexpected political move. "He will no longer have a direct influence on the government... However, I think that this primarily bothers Mr. President's entourage, but not himself. He will find another part in the game," says the moderator.

And it is no wonder, for Pospíšil, Zeman is also a great political player: "Zeman is a political intellectual, he basically plays a game of chess with you. He sets the rules for his partners and opponents based on how strong they are. I took the Lipavský case as a test of Fiala by the president. Fiala did not retreat, Zeman withdrew, but the game will continue. By standing his ground, Prime Minister Fiala retained his position for the future. This establishes a great chance that the influence of the president on Fial's government will certainly be lower than on Babiš's government," Pospíšil is sure.

He reminded Prime Minister Sobotka, who would probably back away in such a situation and create more room for maneuver for President Zeman. "This is how Zeman works."

According to Pospíšil, President Zeman also cares to a certain extent about what will be left here after him: "He is concerned with a certain legacy. I think he didn't even want him to end his mandate by, say, losing at the Constitutional Court. The way he ends thirty years in politics apparently played a role," he answered when asked if there would be a certain split at the Castle due to the different interests of the president and his associates.

According to Soukup, the incoming government will have a big problem from the very beginning, as huge expectations are placed on it. "The reality is hard... if disillusionment with the new government doesn't start even before it starts working," he noted.

"It will definitely happen," says Pospíšil, that there will be an unpleasant sobering up. "It is typical for our country that we fall into skepticism and say that we expected this... But it is important how the government will govern, what results it will have. At some point the atmosphere will certainly be less favorable than it is now after the elections. People who didn't want Babiš have now fallen into euphoria," he recalled.

“The government will have to take a number of unpopular steps because the previous government neglected some issues. That's the reality. I think, on the other hand, that if the Czechs see from a certain distance that it brings results, they will be able to support Fial's government in the future. But now a certain disillusionment will come," believes Pospíšil.

Soukup followed up on his words by saying that he would like Fiala to come out with at least a medium-term vision. "To say where he wants to take the Czech Republic, where the goal is. He will now ask us to humble ourselves and accept the fact that the economic, financial and health situation will not be rosy. People no longer trust the state," he said, adding that after Babiš, the new government is taking over one of the worst legacies.

He criticized Babiš for Friday's press conference ending the government: "It was without a vision, just a list of numbers, who received how much money. It was like Gustýv Husák's New Year's speech," he frowned - and Pospíšil laughed: "A Slovak at the head of the state, today I agree with you on everything, you see," both gentlemen noted.

However, according to Pospíšil, good communication with citizens is more important than the vision of the new government. "But it's not about what vision Fiala will have. It is about how the Prime Minister and his team will explain to people why a certain step must be taken. It is important to have a vision, but it is also essential to be able to communicate it to people," he described the recipe for how Fial's government could be successful in the long term.
