He taught for 40 years in the first grade of a rural elementary school. Even in retirement, Jaroslav Bauer did not stop being a teacher, he devotes himself to the education of senior citizens. In both cases, they see the same basis, the need to interest pupils and students.

Jaroslav Bauer comes from Lubná and lives in Litomyšl. From there, he commuted to Sebranice, about 15 kilometers away, for 40 years, where he taught at the first grade of primary school and was one of the most successful and popular teachers for all those years. "You need to put your invention and personality into learning. Children need a person with whom they can at least partly identify, superheroes from movies cannot do that," answers Jaroslav Bauer when asked where he sees the teacher's success. However, according to him, the basis of a child's upbringing is always in the family. In this context, he likes to quote Comenius that the child is a window into the family.

40 years at primary school

"School should be primarily about communication, today's children often lack that," says Jaroslav Bauer, adding that children love communication, and nowadays they he doesn't get at home. Parents are too overwhelmed with work, and the most modern technology, computers, telephones, television distracts us from it.

He himself is not against modern conveniences, he even now teaches computers to seniors at the university of the third age. She only sees a problem when she has too much. It is necessary for parents and children to find a regular moment when they will pay attention to each other and talk to each other. The narration, the passing on of experiences and views of the world between generations is said to have pretty much disappeared.

Even though Jaroslav Bauer could compare different generations of children in his forty years of practice, he does not. He just says that, in short, today's children are different, because the world is different than it was, for example, a few decades ago. According to him, being a successful teacher still means the same thing, being able to interest children. He succeeded in this in many cases. He likes to remember, for example, projects when his students collected rumors, traveled together around the region in the footsteps of the Knight Wanderer, searched for secret passages, in archives and wrote articles for the local newspaper or played theater plays.
