Toyota, Suzuki and Daihatsu are said to be working on a small mid-engine sports car<

The Japanese motoring magazine Best Car Web came up with an interesting report, according to which Toyota is working on a new sports model. Even more interesting is the fact that Daihatsu and Suzuki, with whom Toyota has established close cooperation in recent years, should also participate in the development.

So far, this is only an unconfirmed speculation, which only Japanese colleagues have come up with, who also do not have any concrete materials for it, and there is no talk of this project anywhere else in the world. We borrowed one of the original visions of the new Toyota Supra for the gallery. But if the rumors turn out to be true, it should be a mid-engined sports car that is expected to be introduced in 2025.

Cooperation between Toyota and Daihatsu goes back to 1967, with Toyota buying a controlling stake in Daihatsu in the 1990s, and since 2016 the Daihatsu brand has been fully owned by Toyota.

The relationship between the Toyota and Suzuki car companies dates back to 2019, when the two car companies established closer cooperation, which has so far resulted in several rebranded models. In Europe, for example, we can see the electrified Toyota RAV4 and Corolla under the name Suzuki Swace and Across, while in Asia and other markets, compact and affordable Suzuki models with Toyota logos are sold.

The result of the cooperation of these three brands could then take several forms, while one of the most interesting could be the successor to the sporty Toyota MR2. In the past, the Daihatsu brand became famous for several of its small sports cars in the Kei category, in which the Suzuki brand is also gaining ground in Japan.

In addition to the return of the Toyota MR2, we could also expect new Kei sports cars, intended only for the Japanese market, or for the Asian markets. After the recent acceleration of Toyota's electric visions, we fear that there won't be much room for similar models on the European market. After all, this is also shown by the planned lifespan of the GR86 model on the old continent.
