Extraordinary immediate assistance 2020. When, how much and for whom<

Extraordinary immediate assistance is one of the allowances for material hardship, in addition to the subsistence allowance and housing allowance. In contrast to the allowance and supplement, this is a one-off benefit: it is not paid regularly every month, but as "first aid" to overcome a sudden financial crisis. For example, due to floods, fire, or when essential household equipment breaks.

If the officials are to grant you extraordinary immediate assistance, you must meet the basic condition: to be in material need. According to the law, a person is in this category if his overall social and property conditions do not allow the satisfaction of basic life needs even at the lowest socially acceptable level.

How to get extraordinary immediate assistance

Extraordinary immediate assistance is a non-entitlement benefit. In practice, this means that officials always decide whether you will receive the benefit. Specifically, officials from the contact workplace of the employment office - this is where the benefit is applied for. Details on how to apply can be found at the end of the article.

When deciding on the granting of a benefit, it is based on the specific situation of the applicant, but at the same time, extraordinary immediate assistance can only be granted in certain situations defined by law. In addition, the officials are also interested in whether the adverse financial situation cannot be solved in another way. For example, if you have no assets to sell.

It is also up to the officials what amount they will pay you as a one-time aid. Most often, however, the amount of the benefit depends on the subsistence and living minimum. The subsistence minimum represents the amount necessary to provide food and other necessities for survival. For this year, he makes 2,200 crowns.

The living wage is a socially recognized limit of the monthly income needed to cover basic life needs such as food, hygiene and clothing. It is true that the living wage of a household always depends on the number of members. In 2020, the following amounts are so far:

It is likely that there will be an increase in the living wage this year, in March or from the middle of the year. Our minimum living wage calculator calculates both its current amount and the amount after any adjustment.

When the elements rage

When a natural disaster - a flood, a windstorm, a natural gas explosion or a falling tree - deprives you of a roof over your head and personal belongings, you can get up to fifteen times the life minimum individual. So a maximum of 51,150 crowns, but the specific amount will be determined by the extent of the damage and your overall social and financial circumstances. The dose can be taken all at once or drawn gradually.

The authorities will also help in a situation where you need a new citizenship card, a duplicate birth certificate or documents required for employment (such as a criminal record or a food certificate), but you have nothing to pay the administrative fees. At the same time, you can also cover the fare from the benefit and, if necessary, overnight accommodation as well.

The officials will pay the benefit depending on the amount of the specific expenditure.

Education and clubs

The state will also offer a helping hand to people who have a problem with paying the expenses associated with the education of a dependent child. The costs of ski training, interest groups or children's camp are also included. Exactly how much the officials will pay you depends on the specific costs and your family situation. But the ceiling is ten times the living minimum of an individual, i.e. 34,100 crowns.

At the same time, the benefit can be drawn to ensure necessary activities related to the social and legal protection of children: counseling assistance, visiting children from a children's home in the family or parents in a children's home.

Essential household equipment

With the employment office, you can also deal with a broken washing machine, refrigerator, or more precisely: necessary household equipment and items of long-term use. In addition to the two mentioned appliances, for example a bed, a water tap or a toilet bowl are considered essential household equipment. Conversely, due to a broken TV, set-top box or satellite antenna, the dose cannot be drawn. An object of long-term need is, for example, prescription glasses.

It is valid that the costs associated with the purchase of new equipment (or the repair of the old one) are reimbursed up to the amount of the specific cost. During one calendar year, however, the sum of benefits for these purposes may not exceed ten times the subsistence minimum for an individual, i.e. 34,100 crowns.

At risk of social exclusion

A person who is at risk of social exclusion can draw a maximum of 1,000 crowns. According to the law, these are mainly people who have just been released from prison or people who have finished addiction treatment. At the same time, the benefit can also be awarded to someone who has just left a children's home, is homeless or someone else threatens him with criminal activity (typically in the case of domestic violence).

The sum of benefits for these purposes may not exceed four times the subsistence minimum of an individual during the calendar year, i.e. 13,640 crowns.

When it comes to health

There are exceptions to the rule in situations where you are at risk of harm to your health - officials can tap the dose even if you are not in material need. In other words: if you do not draw other benefits in material need (mainly subsistence allowance), but lack of money can seriously endanger your health. For example, when you cannot afford to buy basic food and there is a risk of health damage or death from hunger. Through extraordinary immediate assistance, the officials will match your income to the level of the subsistence minimum, for dependent children to the level of the living minimum.

The benefit can be drawn repeatedly, but you do not always have to receive the corresponding amount in cash. When officials suspect that you would buy tobacco or alcohol instead of essential items with money from the state, they can pay thirty-five to sixty-five percent of the benefit in vouchers.

Material hardship vouchers look similar to food stamps. It is used to buy food, basic hygiene products, pharmaceutical goods and clothes. The employment office will advise where to redeem the vouchers, you can find a list of stores here.

Request for extraordinary immediate assistance

Extraordinary immediate assistance is primarily requested at the contact office of the employment office at the place of permanent residence. You can also apply elsewhere if a situation requiring extraordinary immediate assistance occurred outside of your permanent residence.

First of all, you should fill in the Request for extraordinary immediate assistance: briefly describe the current life situation for which you are requesting a benefit. The office will also be interested in your income and overall social and property conditions - you can find all the necessary forms in our form gallery. Also bring your ID card with you.

The officials should pay the benefit immediately, not until the next month like other social benefits. You can have the money from the employment office paid into a bank account, by postal order or in cash (or in vouchers, if you are drawing the benefit in case of imminent health damage). Extraordinary immediate assistance can be requested repeatedly. Based on one application, however, the benefit is due only once. If you need extraordinary immediate assistance again, you must submit a new application.
