How to get rid of old clothes? There are more options - Moravskoslezský deník<

There are several ways to dispose of old clothes, toys or bed linen in Ostrava. Just choose. Collection companies, Žebřík charity shops or even Charita Ostrava themselves will help you. She accepts dresses directly in her establishments. "For example, in the František Asylum. We take clean, undamaged clothes to supplement the so-called handy wardrobe for homeless people. It is the same in the Low Threshold Center in Vítkovice. Recently, we have been missing, for example, men's jeans of all sizes, t-shirts or sneakers. For women, jeans, trousers and sneakers. In general, we also have a shortage of towels, bath towels and tea towels," pointed out Dalibor Kraut from Charity Ostrava. He added that people who have a roof over their heads can also find help in the handy wardrobe. "We will definitely not turn them away."

He added that in cooperation with Diakonia Broumov, Charita organizes a humanitarian collection of clothing called Unnecessary things for people in need. "It takes place on April 16 in the premises of the freight station in Ostrava at the intersection of Mariánskohorská and Cihelní streets. It's a regular event," explained Kraut.

Another option is the Žebřík charity shops. "People can bring us not only clothes, but also household items, books, CDs, toys and art. We will then sort all the items and place them in the stores we have in Mariánské Hory and Poruba. We then sell the goods there at prices comparable to secondhand ones. We do not have special requirements for donated items. The money we collect goes to the construction of a hospital for the disabled," said Richard Kazda, one of the founders of Žebřík.

If people don't want to leave the house, but still want to get rid of unused things, they can use the offers of collection companies. One of them is Reco-Czech, which cooperates with Charita from Brno, Jihlava and Třebíč.

"We inform interested parties about this option through leaflets that we distribute to mailboxes. People then pack unnecessary things into bags, mark them with a leaflet and prepare them on the street. Our collection truck collects them between nine in the morning and ten in the evening. We bundle the bags in one place, where they are sorted by people from the employment offices. Items that can be used further will be handed over to Charita, who will divide them according to needs," explained Martina Dvořáčková from the Reco-Czech company. The rest of the items are then handed over to the automotive industry for ecological recycling. According to Dvořáčková, there is more interest in collections in smaller municipalities than in big cities.

The company Seha works in a similar way. "People find out about us through flyers. We sort the collected textiles. I must say, however, that a maximum of five percent of usable items can be donated to charity. Unusable ones are then redistributed according to materials. For example, sweater fabric is ground into dust and large carpets are made from it, which are used for insulation or for cars," said company owner Robert Chlumecký.

Ostrava female students organize a charity Bazaar - Send it forward

Many people can contribute to a good cause already this Monday, April 8. As part of their semester project, the students of the University of Ostrava are organizing a charity Bazaar - Send it on. Its proceeds are donated to the Ondrášek mobile hospice. "At the Bazaar, we sell clothes, accessories, jewelry, but also many other things. We find them ourselves through acquaintances and friends. From time to time, someone gets in touch with us and dedicates their pieces to us. What we don't sell, we take to the Mutual Coexistence organization. They will use everything there until the last one," said one of the organizers of the Bazaar, Nikola Kramárová, who with her classmates is studying Management in the non-profit sector at the Faculty of Philosophy. According to her, the first attempt at the Bazaar was a flop. "The proceeds were not worth anything. In the second attempt, we obtained seventeen through the Bazaar thousand crowns. We donated it to the Stará Arena, as it needs every crown for renovation," added Kramárová. The charity event takes place in the Cooltur center on Černá louka from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
