How to store a bike for the winter? Give it a service, you will avoid possible repairs in the spring<

Winter is here and only a few cyclists use their bikes all year round. Only strong and hardy individuals invest in quality clothing, withstand being "thrown" with slush from a passing car, and often take driving on snow and ice as their victory.

Others put their bikes away in basements, carriage houses, sheds or garages. But even before that, commit to him. "Over the winter, services are also cheaper and without unnecessary waiting. That's why I recommend this check, thanks to which you won't have to wait unnecessarily long for a possible repair," former cycling representative Antonín Bartoníček.

On a bicycle, you need to check the quality of tires, brake rubbers, rim quality and chain condition, and you can do it yourself if you understand. "The chain can stretch after 500 or 1000 km, and then we will needlessly destroy other parts. E-bikes normally weigh around 22 kg, have disc brakes, and therefore the brake pads need to be monitored. Check that all rotating parts rotate without resistance and rush, or lubricate or repair the cause of the rubbing. And above all, thoroughly clean and wash the bike before we store it."

The brakes on more expensive bikes are a separate chapter. These are mostly hydraulic and have their fillings prescribed by the manufacturer. They should be replaced once or twice a year. "The argument that we've been driving a car for years and haven't taken care of brake fluid until today doesn't hold up."

Remove the battery from the e-bike before storage and charge it. Do not store the battery in areas where it freezes. During the winter, check it at least twice and recharge it if necessary.

What can impurities in the brake fluid cause and what about shock absorbers? Listen in the report.
