How much does raising a child cost? 8 million may be little! | NašeP peníze.cz<

I gained insight into the cost of education and training on a sample of 7 people. 3 of them come from the "poor family", 2 from the "normal family" and 2 from the "richer family". I mapped the expenses from birth to the age of 25 - all are currently university students, so it is quite interesting to compare financial contribution from parents to "student life".

I expected differences in the cost of raising children between the respondents. I even reckoned that it is definitely not enough for the poorest families. But the research brought me very surprising conclusions. Of course, they are not representative, but they do determine the idea and the possibility of comparison.

The child's life should be divided into 3 to 4 phases. The first phase is birth to 6 years, the second phase is 6 - 15 years (period of study at primary school), then high school studies 15 - 19 years and the last phase is university studies - usually 5 years. To simplify, I have combined the periods of primary and secondary school studies. All results are based on surveys of individual costs in the respective families.

Characteristics of the "poor family"

I included 3 interviewed families in the "poor family" category. Their total income was around 35 - 45 thousand. CZK / month. In two cases, the families had 2 children. These were complete families - (mother, father and child / s). Families live in northern Bohemia - more precisely in Ústí nad Labem (a poor region with a shortage of work). The parents work in local industrial factories, in services (swimming pools) and in education.

The total cost of the "poor family" was on average CZK 1,900,000.

Characteristics of the "normal family"

I have included two families in the "normal family" category. The total household income ranged from 70 to 100 thousand CZK / month. These are again complete families with one child - they do not have to divide the funds between two children. These families also come from Ústí nad Labem. The parents of the children usually do business or have a decent job with a very decent salary - (doctor, lawyer, senior management position in a local company).

The total costs of a "normal family" averaged CZK 3,840,000. Expenditures are almost double that of poor families. The child from the "normal family" differs the most in that he goes to the mountains and the sea several times a year, he can afford designer clothes and more expensive electronics - especially mobile phones.

Characteristics of the "rich family"

In the "rich family" category, one household comes from Ústí nad Labem and the other family from Pilsen. Incomes rich in families are several times higher than incomes of poor or normal families. Incomes for one family are around 500 thousand. CZK / month and in the second they even reach CZK 1 million. One family has 2 daughters and the other only one. As they are young ladies, the costs of clothes and cosmetics are really very high. Parents from both families do business and own a number of companies.

The total cost of raising a child of a "rich family" amounts to CZK 8,066,600. A household known as a "poor family" would support as many as 4 children for this amount.
