The Portuguese defeated the Hungarians for the seventh time in the last eight matches and did not lose to them for the fourteenth time in a row. At the same time, they stretched their current series of invincibility to seven duels. The Hungarians lost after 11 matches. The defenders of the trophy will play another duel on Saturday in Munich with Germany, Hungary will welcome the incumbent vice-champion of France in Budapest on the same day.

Thanks to the relaxed measures against coronavirus in the country, the Hungarians were able to use the entire capacity of the Puskás Arena as the only hosts of the European Championships, so the match with the reigning champion was watched by 55,662 fans in the stands. In the stormy atmosphere, the locals gradually managed to dull the effort for Portuguese pressure. The only exception in the introduction was Jot's shot, after which the better-built Ronaldo was angry that his partner had not yet recorded for him from the attack.

The biggest Portuguese chances came at the end of the first half. At first, Gulácsi struck Diogo's blow after a quick turn, and just before the end, Ronaldo could reassert himself in the center of the left side, but he overshot from close range.

Portugal continued the siege even after the break. Three minutes after returning from the cabins, Pepe's defender jumped on the corner, but Gulácsi, catching the 40th match in the national team, struck against his header in time. The Portuguese struck at the end. Six minutes before the end of normal playing time, Guerreiro was best oriented after a pass from the right side and, thanks to the flow of the defending Orbán, sent the favorite into the lead. It was his third goal in the national team.

Ronaldlo punished the shaken Hungarians a moment later. Rafa Silva ran into the penalty area and after Orbán's foul, the judge Cakir ordered a penalty. The cannonball of Juventus stood up to her and definitely calmed down with a blow to the favorite's movement.

He closed the score in the set time with the 106th goal in the national team. Ronaldo thus scored in all five European Championships in which he participated, thus also setting a new record.
