The obligation to use car seats when transporting children in cars is laid down by law. The criteria for how and by when it must be used are determined in our country by the Act on Road Traffic (Act No. 361/2000 Coll.). Child car seats act as a restraint safety system, the purpose and purpose of which is to provide maximum protection when driving in a vehicle to children up to a certain body weight and height.

The child car seat must be placed on the seat and fastened in the manner specified by the manufacturer in the instructions. The car seat category must always correspond to the child's height and current weight.

A child car seat of any category can be placed in any car in a car. Logically, of course, it is not possible to take the driver's seat. If we place any opposite seat on the front passenger seat (it's not just eggs), the airbag must be switched off (deactivated).

If we place a child in the front passenger seat in the direction of travel, the airbag must be activated, but move the child away from the dashboard with the entire seat so that there is space between the child's chest and head and the dashboard - space for the airbag to inflate.

What is Isofix good for?

Before buying a car seat, you need to find out if your vehicle allows you to fasten the seat using the Isofix system. In particular, this system enables the CORRECT, quick and easy attachment of a child car seat. As many adults often made mistakes when installing a child car seat, they did not fasten the seats consistently with a classic seat belt, and the transport of children was not so safe. That's why Isofix is ​​safer - because an adult can't make as many mistakes when attaching a car seat.

And beware, the car seat must always be replaced if the child reaches the maximum specified weight or the head is already exceeding the top of the skeleton.

Until when does the child have to ride in a car seat?

Some parents make the big mistake of getting a child seat instead of a car seat too soon. They argue that he no longer feels comfortable in the seat, and the ride becomes an unpleasant experience for him. So how do you know the right time when it is safe to transport a child only with the use of a seat cushion?

The recommendations are such that children can stay in car seats and with a backrest for as long as possible within the set limits (ie height 150 cm and body weight 36 kg), especially because they have a protected torso and neck and head area in these seats. "Not only in frontal impacts, but especially in side impacts. Therefore, we do not recommend the cushions very much. We generally accept them if the family has more children and the rear seats of the vehicle do not fit three car seats next to each other. Or for occasional transport, less frequent. What not to forget when choosing a child car seat?

The height and weight of the child are decisive

By law, you can carry a branch without a car seat or seat only if the following conditions are met: the child must measure more than 150 cm and / or weigh more than 36 kg.

The function of the seat cushion is for the child to sit higher and the seat belt of the car not to lead over his neck, as there would be a risk of strangulation in the event of an impact. The vehicle's seat belt should encircle the entire body, and the pelvic area at the bottom. It should not lead through the neck, shoulder joint and abdomen.

"In the case of three children, where three seats cannot fit in the car, the oldest child can sit without any child restraint system, only a seat belt. However, I recommend families with three children to look for other solutions so that all three children have a car seat, "says Mgr. Markéta Novotná.

And don't forget that a child measuring less than 150 cm is only allowed to ride in the front seat next to the driver if it is restrained in an adequate restraint system, ie a child car seat.
