Of course, the most important protective element remains the motorcycle helmet. That is also why the obligation to wear it is enshrined in our legislation. Its choice depends mainly on the type of machine on which you will plow the roads, or on the terrain in which you will move. You can find motorcycle helmets on the market in both on-road and off-road versions. In both categories, you can then choose whether to choose an open or closed helmet.

Open helmets are more suitable for riding a scooter or chopper, i.e. for slower driving (and ideally in good weather). You will appreciate closed motorcycle helmets at higher speeds and for year-round riding. It is better to get advice from an expert about the specific type that will suit your motorcycle and your riding style.

Whatever helmet you choose, the basis is that it fits you perfectly and is comfortable at the same time. That's why it's worth choosing it personally (and trying a really large number of them before you're completely sure). Subsequently, you can order the given model, for example, via the Internet. Also take care of the weight of the helmet, so as not to put too much strain on the cervical spine, and effective ventilation. Many helmets also offer a built-in intercom, i.e. a system that allows you to communicate with other riders or listen to your favorite music while riding.

Not just for show

Although it might seem that motorcycle clothing is primarily a matter of style, in fact, thanks to a range of protectors, it is primarily a safety function. In the event of a fall, it is not your skin that comes into contact with the road, but special clothing. From this point of view, the most popular is a leather overall, or a leather jacket and trousers. Although they are not among the cheapest, they will provide you with reliable protection.

Nevertheless, special textile clothing for motorbikes is increasingly sought after, which is not only comfortable, but also practical and often more resistant to weather fluctuations (while we're talking about the weather - for riding on hot days, it pays to buy a special "outfit" on summer, which dissipates heat better). Always make sure when purchasing that the clothing you choose has all the required protectors. Similar to the helmet, the overalls or pants and jacket must fit the riders exactly (for safety) and they must feel comfortable in them.

Of course, special gloves are part of the motorcycle equipment. Not only do they prevent your fingers from freezing to the handlebars in bad weather, but above all they increase your safety in the event of a fall. Motorcycle gloves must not rub anywhere and must fit your hands perfectly. Choose them not only according to the design, but also according to the season and riding style - for example, light fingerless gloves are great for a scooter in the summer, leather ones will provide you with protection and comfort for fast rides or in bad weather.

Clothes and gloves must then be supplemented with suitable motorcycle boots. Also, their purchase depends primarily on the type of motorcycle and the style of your ride (a holiday chopper rider needs different shoes, a lover of fast off-road riding on a sports motorcycle needs another). However, there are criteria that should be the same for all motorcycle boots. These include a strong and durable sole, a reinforced toe and heel, a strong ankle and, in the case of higher boots, a high-quality shin protector. Footwear should be light, strong and at the same time have good ventilation. As with the rest of the equipment, it pays to try it on personally when purchasing.

Mainly safety

Emphasis on safety comes first when purchasing motorcycle equipment. That is also why manufacturers have recently been coming up with more and more improvements and introducing motorcycle accessories that better protect riders in the event of a fall or accident. Protectors should be a part of the equipment of all riders, but unfortunately, our roads are still paved by a large number of those who consider their acquisition unnecessary.

Basic protectors include so-called spine protectors. As their name suggests, they protect the back area. You can also buy knee and elbow protectors, especially for sports riders chest protectors, special neck protectors (however, they are also sold in a model for road riders) and many others. It is always worth getting advice from more experienced riders or experts in the shop which protective elements you should not ignore due to your machine or riding style.

Some motorcyclists also purchase special airbags. These are basically some kind of jackets or vests that are attached to the motorcycle with the help of a cable. In the event of an accident, this cable will trip the fuse and the airbag will inflate. This makes the fall less dangerous.

Unfortunately, it very often happens that a motorcyclist is not very visible on the road, or the driver of another vehicle overlooks him. That's why it's worth buying a reflective vest. Today, you no longer have to rely on the classic ones that you have as mandatory equipment in your car. On the market, you can also find vests specifically for motorcycle riders (they fit better and are more durable).

Definitely don't underestimate quality motorcycle equipment. It will not only increase your enjoyment of the ride, but also help you to return happily.
