Counterfeiters of world-famous brands are increasingly encountered by inspectors in luxury shops in the centers of Czech cities, especially in places popular with foreign tourists. For fake textiles, customers often pay amounts comparable to the prices of the originals.
The most frequently detected counterfeits.
Most often, however, foreigners bring home counterfeits from border markets. "Non-original items are mostly taken home from the Czech Republic by Germans and Austrians," says inspection spokeswoman Miloslava Fléglová.
"The Czech Trade Inspection Authority also receives more reports on e-shops or discount portals, where the customer has a minimal opportunity to check whether the goods are really of the appropriate quality," adds the spokesman.

"In the last 3 years, the number of small consignments imported by post or courier has increased significantly. This is due to the growing purchase of goods over the Internet, where customers are mainly attracted by the low price of goods. The probability that they may be counterfeits is quite high, "said Martina Kaňková, spokeswoman for the General Directorate of Customs, for the Lidovky.cz server.
The CTIA's statistics show that out of a total of 1946 inspections last year, almost a third of sellers offered counterfeit goods. The inspectors issued 1,111 fines worth almost 10 million crowns and confiscated 25,000 imitations. The damage was estimated at more than 44 million crowns.
The most counterfeit textile brands.
Most of the counterfeits discovered last year bore motifs from the world of the animated series Pokémon. Burberry, adidas and Louis Vuitton were among the most counterfeit textile brands.
One of the biggest "catches" of domestic customs officers last year was, for example, the smuggling of 136,680 pieces of fake Puma socks, which was seized by the office in Karlovy Vary. The originals would be sold on store shelves for almost 16.5 million crowns.
At the same time, the Czechs do not mind buying counterfeits. According to a GfK survey from November last year, only a third of Czechs and Slovaks reject imitation branded clothing.
