České noviny Director Pánek will start making the family film Children of Nagana<

Prague - Next year in February, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Olympic tournament, the feature family film Children of Nagana should premiere. Hynek Čermák, Klára Issová or Pavel Batěk will present the story of children who inspire the performances of Czech hockey players at the winning tournament in Nagano, Japan. Screenwriter and director Dan Pánek plans to shoot the winter scene in February, most of the film, which takes place in the summer, then in July and August. He told reporters at today's press conference to present the film.

The film mainly deals with the euphoria that started in the Czech Republic in 1998 with the Olympic victory of hockey players. The main character is the 11-year-old Dom, played by Tom Brenton. "The first scene is when children see raids against Canada instead of teaching. The dreams of children in their thirties that they will play in the NHL as their role models were born there," director Pánek recalled the semi-final duel, which sent Czech hockey players to a memorable final against Russia. .

The hero of the film Dom comes from a broken family and clings to his new idol, the goalkeeper of the golden selection Dominik Hašek. However, his parents do not have the money for hockey and, moreover, they doubt his abilities, so he builds a hockey team on the advice of his grandfather and his friend Honza. A team of disparate, underrated children begins to work on a great challenge, defeating a team from a nearby village and gaining respect. After the introductory debacle, the team will be taken over by a distinctive coach and Honza's father, represented by Čermák.

The staff now relies on harsh winters and frozen ponds for the winter scene. "We travel all over the Czech Republic and look for ponds. Yesterday (Thursday) we found some interesting ones. It's the only winter scene, otherwise everything takes place in the summer," Pánek said. The premiere is scheduled for next year in February to mark the 25th anniversary of Nagano's victory.

Former goalkeeper Hašek, who was one of the mainstays of the winning team in Nagano, took over the role of the project's patron. "He will also play a very important role, which I will not reveal yet," said the director. Hasek emphasized that the film is not so much about the tournament itself, but about what inspiration it meant for the children. He also likes that it is a family film about young people. "I don't know if my role will be in seconds or minutes, but that moment has a certain subtext and will play a certain role. That's why I accepted the offer that I would like to play in the film," he said.

According to Čermák, the film also captures the theme of national pride and bravery. "There is a topic of heroes who work hard to achieve their goal. It is a topic that I think should open up," he said. At the same time, he hopes that the "stink of the hockey locker room" will get into the film. He praised the selection of children's actors that director Pánek found at children's film camps. "I knew about them, I had the casting quite easy," Pánek added.
