What has taken you to the very top over the years at Microsoft? Probably the fact that I have never defined any peak. I told myself that I will go where I can go. I give the same advice to athletes today. For example, the Olympics are demonized, but it is a race like any other, even though it only happens once every four years. There is something called over-motivation. It happens when a person is terribly focused on results. In business, you start to fear that you won't meet your goals, and you stop taking risks or making bold decisions. In sports, due to overmotivation, performance immediately drops, because too much adrenaline and especially the stress hormone cortisol is secreted.
